A torque transfer device allows torque to be input at one point of the device and transferred to another point of the device at which the power or torque can be taken from the device. The device incorporates a direct drive means comprised of links (2) and spacers (22) which are interconnected by a continuous loop, such as a cable (10). The direct drive means drives gears (14, 28) which are constructed to receive the links (2) and spacers (22).
