2148799 9411210 PCTABS00032 A suspension assembly (10) for attaching wheel assemblies (48) to a frame (12) includes a pair of torsion spring subassemblies (14, 16) adjustably interconnected by a center axle tube (18) to form a unitary axle-like assembly whose torsion spring subassemblies (14, 16) can be adjustably fixed in various desired spaced positions for connection to a selected frame (12) having a particular width. Each torsion spring subassembly (14, 16) includes a torque limiter and further includes a bracket member (20, 22), the bracket member (20, 22) being generally planar in shape and adapted to communicate forces from the wheel assemblies (48) directly through the torsion spring subassemblies (14, 16) to the frame (12) in a manner that minimizes deformation when the torque limiter engages. A method comprises providing a pair of torsion spring subassembies (14, 16), releasably adjustably interconnecting the torsion spring subassemblies (14, 16) with a center axle member (18) to form a unitary axle-like suspension assembly (10) having a particular width, and connecting the suspension assembly (10) to a frame (12) having a particular width.
