Abstract of the Disclosure A touch switch in which the presence of a user's finger alters the capacitance between two capacitively coupled electrodes is disclosed. A drive pulse generator has an output connected to one of the electrodes. A logic detector circuit has a first input connected to receive the output from the other electrode and a second input connected to receive a control pulse signal derived from the output of the drive pulse generator. The logic circuit is operable to detect the difference in amplitude between the signals applied to the two inputs to detect the or presence or absence of the user's finger and to generate a control signal in accordance therewith to initiate a switching action.
