ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to a helicopter which has a rotor retractable from an elevated position to a retracted position. A first shaft projects from the helicopter fuselage and is supported therefrom for rotation about an axis of rotation. A second shaft projects from the first shaft and is connected to be drivingly rotated by the first shaft about the axis of rotation. The heli- copter also includes a main lift rotor including a hub and blades, and the rotor is movable between the elevated position and a retracted position wherein the rotor hub envelops the first shaft for connection thereto. The invention also relates to a method for retracting the helicopter rotor from the second shaft to the first shaft.
