ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improvement in a conventional towel dispensing apparatus is provided herein. In the improved construction, a novel towel-engagable roller is provided. Such roller includes a roller body portion formed of polymeric material and being of tubular form, at least at its ends. The roller has a towel-engagable surface layer drivably coupled to the body portion, the towel-engageable surface layer comprising at least two bands of elastomeric material mounted on the roller body portion in coaxial relation therewith at axially spaced positions thereon for driving engagement with a towel to be dispensed, each of the bands being formed on its radially out- wardly facing surface with a surface pattern for the driving engagement, each of the bands being drivably coupled to the roller body portion by complementary co-operating drive formations formed on the radially outwardly and radially inwardly facing surfaces respectively of the roller body portion and the band.
