TOY VEHICLE SPIN-OUT WHEEL A toy vehicle (10) With a pair of motor (16) driven axles (14) each have hollow wheels (30) mounted adjacent a respective axle end (20) and in driving engagement with the axle through a resilient member (50, 72) that winds about the axle. The inner end (54) of a coil spring (50) is releasably engaged by teeth (25) rotating with the axle and the other end (51) is connected to the inside of the wheel periphery. Alternatively, an elastic band (72) anchored to the wheel periphery and engaged by the axle may be used. As the axles are driven, rotation is transmitted to each wheel through the resilient member in a relatively loose condition as the toy vehicle is propelled along a generally unobstructed playing surface. Upon a wheel encountering an impediment to the rotation of the wheel, the motor driven axle continues to rotate and winds the resilient member more tightly. If enough torque is thus transmitted through the wound up resilient member for the wheel to overcome the impediment, or if the impediment is removed, the resilient member will unwind causing the wheel to spin-out more rapidly than it was being driven by the motor. All four wheels work independently so that different wheels may be spinning- out at different times.
