A multi-level educational game apparatus and method for teaching letter recognition and for developing the motor skills necessary to print and write the different characters of the alphabet. The educational game includes: 1) Four decks of 26 cards displaying the printed or written, upper or lower case letters of the alphabet. 2) Twelve different levels of game boards (to be distributed as single sheets or pads of sheets) to the different players. Each of these game boards has several rows and columns and the spaces within these rows and columns will each contain a character of the alphabet (written or printed) in one of the following formats: a) the solid outline of the alphabet characters (written or printed, upper or lower case) b) the dotted outline of the alphabet characters (written or printed, upper or lower case) c) a small solid outline of the alphabet character in the corner of the box leaving the majority of the box blank so that the player can copy the character in larger form in the empty space (written or printed, upper or lower case). 3) chips or game pieces that may be used in conjuction with the first and easiest level of the game (level a) to be placed upon the space containing the solid outline of the character when that character is drawn from the deck. 4) markers or pens to allow the players to trace the characters outlined with a dotted line on the second level boards (level b), or to actually print or write the entire character on its own with the third level of boards (level c).
