ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A track drive for the traction engine of a monorail conveyor used in mining is disclosed which is of improved load stability and has improved safety features. The improved track device is characterized in that each toothed drive wheel comprises an elongated downwardly extending hollow axle forming a double-acting lifting cylinder, into which a station ary piston is inserted, which at its lower end, is connected with the transmission housing. The piston rod is provided in its lower section with control lines and in its upper section with a disc piston. The piston rod is axially displaceable and torque-transmitting inside an elongated, downwardly extending, rotatably driven, hollow shaft which, in its lower area, forms the support for a toothed drive wheel and at its upper end a bearing for the friction wheel which at its upper surface is provided with an annular safety chamber adapted to receive the toothed wheel rim of the toothed wheel in lowered position and peripherally enclosing it.
