ABSTRACT Weight bearing in the face of constant unchanging lumber lordosis or kyphosis contributes to low back pain. Solid low back inserts encourage constant facet loading by accentuating lumber lordosis. Absence of any back support forces constant disc loading. Back pain induced by mechanical trauma of prolonged sitting can be pre- vented or eased by unweighting the offending lumber disc(s) or facet joints. In this invention,a torso gripping girdle is hung against the anterior face of any given seat back by weight bearing belts. These belts anchor on posterior face of the seat back. The subject wearing the torso gripping girdle is suspended in a sitting position approximately 1 centimeter above the seat bench. Inserted below the person is an air filled thick walled cushion that is inflated periodically by an air pump that is activated by a pro- grammable automatic recycling timer, thereby raising the subject, re- ducing tension on the supporting straps and loosening the cinching laced mechanism on the girdle so that its grip on the abdomen and thoracic cage is reduced. Deflation of the seat cushion through a controlled bleeding valve reapplies pull on supporting starps, thereby squeezing and suspending abdomen and thorax and unweights the lower disc joints at levels lumbar[5] and sacral[1] and probably also lumber [3] and [4]. The girdle is lined by another posterionly placed air filled inflatable Inserted below the person is an air filled thick walled cushion that is inflated periodically by air pump that is activated by a pro- grammable automatic recycling timer, thereby raising the subject, re- ducing tension on the supporting straps and loosening the cinching laced mechanism on the girdle so that its grip on the abdomen and thoracic cage is reduced. Deflation of the seat cushion through a controlled bleeding abdomen and thorax and unweights the lower squeezing and suspending abdomen and thorax and unweights the lower disc joints at levels lumber [5] and sacral [1] and probably also and [4]. The girdle is lined by another posteriorly placed air filled inflatable and deflatable cushion whose purpose is to facilitate and augment grasping of varying body trunk diameters comfortable. Inflation and deflation of this cushion is also mediated by a programmable auto- matic recycling timed air pump. During inflation this posteriorly placed girdle bladder forces passive accentuation of lumber lordosis which manoeuvre helps lessen constant facet loading. In summary this invention eases back pain induced by prolonged sitting by periodically unweighting low back support mechanisms and also by passively varying low back posture thereby cyclically loading and un- loading disc and facet lumbar joints.
