An improved traction enhancing article is provided which is applicable to many different items such as shoes, skateboards, snowboards, and the like. The traction enhancing article has a plurality of regularly spaced cleats embedded in a flexible base which, in at least one embodiment, has an adhesive backing allowing it to be removably secured to a variety of different items. The cleats are preferably formed of aluminum and have a hexagonal base which tapers to a rounded top. Both sides of the cleat surface are roughened to enhance traction and to ensure the cleat remains embedded in the base even under extreme stress conditions.
