A TRACTOR DECELERATOR ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A decelerator for a tractor which has a source of electric current and an engine. The tractor incorporates a speed control to establish an idle speed for the engine, with the speed control being manually adjustable to establish a pre-selected speed for the engine which is higher than the idle speed. The manual adjustments of the speed control to these higher speeds is achieved through the use of a selector that is connected to the speed control. The tractor also utilizes a clutch connected to the engine, with a clutch control to selectively transmit power from the engine when the clutch is engaged and disengaged. The decelerator incorporates a mechanism interposed between the selector and the speed control. The mechanism is electrically connected to the source, and will maintain the engine at the idle speed during the engagement and disengagement of the clutch in response to electric current from the source. The mecha- nism will also return the engine to the pre-selected speed, when the clutch engagement is completed, and the electric current ceases to flow to the mechanism. The flow of electric current to the mechanism of the decelerator is controlled by a switch interposed in the electrical con- nection between the source and the mechanism. The switch will respond to the clutch control by completing the con- nection before the clutch disengagement begins, and by breaking the connection after the clutch engagement is completed.
