The present invention relates to a method and an arrangement for determining a hot spot of telephone traffic in a cell. The invention uses simltaneously two basic measurements of digital radio systems: timing advance and adjacent cell measurement. Timing advance informs the distance (n0-n10) of the mobile station from the base station (BTS3) but not the direction. On the basis of the measured signal strengths of adjacent cells it is possible to determine a set of possible locations (T1, T2) of the mobile station when there is information about the coverage area of individual adjacent cells. When these measurements are used simultaneously, they exclude the inaccuracies of each other and enable very accurate location determination for monotoring traffic distribution. Timing advance is utilized to determine a set of circular, base- station-centric areas (n0-n10) and adjacent cell measurements are utilized to determine the direction of the mobile station to the base station (BTS3).

L'invention concerne un procédé et un arrangement permettant de déterminer un point chaud du trafic téléphonique dans une cellule. L'invention utilise simultanément deux mesures de base des systèmes de radiocommunication numérique: l'avance de synchronisation et la mesure des cellules adjacentes. L'avance de synchronisation renseigne sur la distance (n0-n10) entre la station mobile et la station de base (BTS3), mais pas sur la direction. Sur la base de la force des signaux mesurée au niveau des cellules adjacentes, il est possible de déterminer un ensemble de localisations possibles (T1, T2) de la station mobile quand il existe des informations sur la zone de couverture des différentes cellules adjacentes. Quand ces mesures sont utilisées simultanément, elles excluent les imprécisions de l'une et de l'autre et permettent de déterminer très précisément la localisation, et donc de réguler la distribution du trafic. L'avance de synchronisation est utilisée pour déterminer un ensemble de zones circulaires (n0-n10) ayant pour centre la station de base, et les mesures des cellules adjacentes sont utilisées pour déterminer la direction de la station mobile par rapport à la station de base (BTS3).
