This invention discloses a trailer engagement apparatus for selectable locking engagement with a vehicle mounted hitch ball and including a housing, a towing engagement mechanism disposed within the housing, a lock body fixedly mounted onto the housing and a lock shank arranged for selectable locking engagement with the lock body and being positioned such that when it is in locking engagement with the lock body it prevents it prevents insertion of a hitch ball into operative engagement with the housing and where a hitch ball is already engaged with the housing, prevents its disengagement.
