A trailer has a two-stage sliding suspension arrangement that moves fore and aft. The trailer may be tilted for easy loading when the suspension is in the forward position. A double acting hydraulic cylinder positioned beneath the trailer deck moves a sliding hydraulic frame to which sheaves are mounted. Cables are connected between the trailer frame and a sliding suspension assembly, the latter of which includes the trailer axles and wheels. When the hydraulic cylinder is activated, the hydraulic frame slides so that the cable and sheave arrangement moves the suspension assembly.
