A trailer hitch guide having a detachable, V-shaped guide member with upwardly and outwardly flared portions proximate the rearward ends of the walls portion thereof. The flared portions of the walls cooperate with the hitch coupler to raise the coupler and tongue of the trailer, reducing the weight on the tongue jack so as to facilitate the guiding motion. The V-shaped guide plate is detachably mounted to a base plate which is secured beneath the base of the hitch ball. The guide plate is connected to the base plate by a pin which passes through a transverse sleeve at the rear of the base plate and adjacent extensions of the wall members; a lug hold-down on the guide member engages a slot towards the front of the base plate so as to prevent the guide member from rotating about the locking pin during use. The guide member also includes an upper hoop which prevents a coupler from riding over the guide plate and striking the back of the vehicle, and the hoop also serves as a handle for installation/removal of the V-shaped guide member.
