Disclosed are: a double-stranded oligonucleotide which is useful as a decoy oligonucleotide having a high ability to bind to a transcription factor and a reduced cytotoxicity; and use of the double-stranded oligonucleotide for medical purposes. A double-stranded oligonucleotide composed of a hybrid of a sense oligonucleotide having a nucleotide sequence depicted by the formula A with an anti-sense oligonucleotide which is complementary to the sense oligonucleotide: 5'-N(m)-G-(consensus sequence)-C-N(n)-3' (A) wherein N(m) represents a sequence which is added to the 5'-terminus and is composed of m units of N's and N(n) represents a sequence which is added to the 3'-terminus and is composed of n units of N's, wherein all of N's independently represent a nucleotide A, G, T, C or U; m and n independently represent an integer of 0 to 20; and the term "consensus sequence" means a consensus sequence to which a transcription factor is to be bound.

Un oligonucléotide à double brin composé d~un hybride d~un oligonucléotide sens ayant une séquence nucléotide décrite au moyen de la formule A avec un oligonucléotide anti-sens qui est complémentaire de l~oligonucléotide sens : 5'-N(m)-G-(séquence consensus)-C-N(n)-3' (A) où N(m) représente une séquence qui est ajoutée à l'extrémité 5' et qui est composée de m unités de N et N(n) représente une séquence qui est ajoutée à l'extrémité 3~ et qui est composée de n unités de N, où tous les N représentent indépendamment un nucléotide A, G, T, C ou U ; m et n représentent indépendamment un entier de 0 à 20 ; et le terme « séquence consensus » signifie une séquence consensus à laquelle un facteur de transcription doit être lié.
