ABSTRACT The invention is concerned with a transcutaneous carbon dioxide measurement electrode assembly comprising a glass electrode which is composed of a tubular member made of a highly insulating material and an H+ ion sensitive glass membrane which is provided at the bottom of the tubular member, a conductive layer being formed on the inner surface of the glass membrane. A preamplifier is arranged in the glass electrode and an external reference electrode surrounds the glass electrode. The electrode assembly of the invention is useful for measuring the carbon dioxide cencentration or partial pressure in the tissue or in the blood of a patient.
