Composition of matter for application to a body surface or membrane to administer a N-(2,5-Disubstituted phenyl)-N'-(3-substituted phenyl)-N'-methyl guanidine by permeation through the body surface or membrane, the composition comprising the guanidine compound to be administered, at a therapeutically effective rate, optionally in combination with a permeation enhancer or mixture. Also disclosed are drug delivery devices and methods for the transdermal administration of a guanidine for the prevention of neuropathic pain, neuropsychological deficits resulting from cardiac surgery (CABG), and other neurological disorders.

L'invention concerne une composition à appliquer sur la surface ou la membrane d'un corps afin d'administrer N-(2,5-disubstitué phényl)-N'-(3-substitué phényl)-N'-méthyl guanidine par perméation à travers la surface ou la membrane du corps. Cette composition comporte le composant guanidine à administrer, à un taux thérapeutiquement efficace, éventuellement combiné à un amplificateur de perméation ou un mélange. L'invention concerne également des dispositifs d'administration de médicaments et des procédés permettant l'administration transcutanée de la guanidine, afin de prévenir une douleur neuropathique, des déficiences neuropsychologiques résultant d'interventions chirurgicales cardiaques (CABG) ainsi que d'autres troubles neurologiques.
