Abstract A pharmaceutical preparation containing isosorbide dinitrate as active ingredient, a solvent, an ointment consistency agent, optionally an emulsifiying agent, water and optionally usual preservatives, antioxidants, pH regulators and/or fragrances. The weight ratio of water to consistency agent (including any emulsifying agent) to solvent is from 30 to 80 : 3 to 35 : 3 to 35. The content of emulsifying agent if present is from 0.5 to 15% by weight based on the preparation and the content of isosorbide dinitrate is from 2 to 20% by weight. The preparation affords a high resorption rate and a more lasting effect on topical administration.
