Provided, among other things, is a method of treating acute, delayed or anticipatory emesis for a sustained period in an individual, which involves applying to a portion of intact skin on the individual a composition of i. an antiemetically effective amount of a 5-HT3 receptor antagonist; ii. a permeation enhancing amount of permeation enhancer comprising 0.5% to 15% by weight of the skin-contacting layer; and iii. an adhesive, wherein a plasma concentration of the 5-HT3 receptor antagonist in a therapeutically effective range is provided for period of time from an onset time to 12 hours or more after the composition is removed.

L'invention concerne, notamment, une méthode permettant de traiter les vomissements aigus, anticipés ou retardés sur une longue période chez un patient, consistant à appliquer sur une peau intacte une composition renfermant : i. une dose utile pour prévenir les nausées et les vomissements d'un antagoniste des récepteurs 5-HT3 ; une dose utile pour augmenter la perméation d'un activateur de perméation constituant 0,5-15 % en poids de la couche en contact avec la peau ; et iii. un adhésif. Cette méthode permet de maintenir la concentration plasmatique de l'antagoniste des récepteurs 5-HT3 dans une marge utile au niveau thérapeutique pendant un laps de temps pouvant aller au-delà de 12 heures après le retrait du timbre.
