A paper making machine includes a forming section followed by a press section and followed by a drying section. The press section has at least one shoe press, which is preferably the final press nip. The final press nip is single felted with a bottom, smooth water repelling roll surface on which the web is conducted from the final press nip to a removal point from that roll surface. The drying section includes a first drying cylinder. A top, porous, web transport belt, for instance the dryer wire of the first dryer group, takes the web from the water repelling roll surface generally at the point of removal by means of a suction roll in the endless loop of the transport belt. The transport belt is pressed by the suction roll against the smooth roll surface in the region of the point of removal of the web avoiding an open nip path at that transfer.
