The present invention features transgenic rodent models of HIV, wherein the transgenic rodent or transgenic rodent cell has incorporated into its genome genes encoding a human CD4 receptor and a human chemokine receptor. In particular the invention relates to transgenic rats, or mice characterized by being susceptible to infection with HIV, capable of expressing HIV structural genes, or HIV replication. The transgenic rodent or rodent cell of this invention is useful for studying the molecular basis of HIV infection, replication and pathogenicity, as well as for the testing of agents for new antiviral or vaccine strategies.
La présente invention concerne des modèles de VIH de rongeur transgénique dans lesquels le rongeur transgénique ou sa cellule incorpore dans ses génomes des gènes codant un récepteur CD4 humain et un récepteur chimiokine humain. L'invention concerne en particulier des rats ou des souris transgéniques qui se caractérisent en ce qu'ils sont sensibles à une infection par VIH et peuvent exprimer des gènes de structure du VIH ou une réplication du VIH. Le rongeur transgénique ou la cellule de rongeur de l'invention peut servir à l'étude de la base moléculaire d'une infection par VIH, d'une réplication ou d'une pathogénicité, ou pour tester des agents aux fins d'établissement de nouvelles stratégies de traitement antiviral ou de mise au point d'un vaccin.
