There is provided a transient electromagnetic method and apparatus for inspecting objects using moving sensor. The apparatus (13) includes a sensing portion (27) which has a transmitting antenna (29) and at least one receiving antenna thereon (31). The sensing portion (27) is located adjacent to the object which is to be inspected such that the antennas (29, 31) are adjacent to the object. The sensing portion (27) is moved along the object at the same time the transmitting antenna (29) is inducing current in the wall and the receiving antenna (31) is producing a received signal of the induced current diffusion in the wall. Because the antennas (29, 31) are moving during data acquisition, the speed of inspection is increased. The data is then interpreted to determine the thickness of the object.
On décrit un procédé et un appareil d'inspection électromagnètique transitoire servant à inspecter des objets au moyen de détecteurs mobiles. L'appareil (13) comprend une partie de détection (27) qui est pourvue d'une antenne d'émission (29) et d'au moins une antenne de réception (31). Las partie de détection (27) est placée à proximité de l'objet devant être inspecté, de sorte que les antennes (29, 31) soient contiguës à l'objet. La partie de détection (27) est déplacée le long de l'objet alors même que l'antenne d'émission (29) induit simultanément du courant dans la paroi et que l'antenne de réception (31) produit un signal de réception en fonction de la diffusion de courant induit dans la paroi. Comme les antennes (29, 31) se déplacent au cours de l'acquisition des données, la vitesse d'inspection est accrue. Les données sont alors interprétées afin de déterminer l'épaisseur de l'objet.
