-11- Abstract Transition Pieces A transition piece for attaching branch pipes, valves, etc to a pipe or the like at a position inter- mediate its ends is formed as a one-piece component by forging, preferably drop-forging, and comprises a flanged end portion (8), a tapered neck portion (7) and a flared neck portion (5), said tapered neck portion (7) tapering from the flanged end portion (8) towards a waist portion (6) intermediate the ends of the component (4), said flared neck portion (5) flaring from the waist portion (6) towards the end of the component remote from the flanged end portion (8), said component having a throughbore (11) running the length of the component.(4).
