ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved transmission is disclosed which has a two-speed planetary gear set and comprises a first change gear mechanism which includes first and second parellel shafts carrying a plurality of intermeshing gear sets and a housing with a first change gear mechanism. The improvement includes a second change gear mechanism which is removably supported within the housing, the second change gear mechanism includes a rotatable third shaft, a forward/reverse gear mechanism which includes a pair of gears rotatably journaled about and selectively engageable with the rotatable third shaft and a two-speed planetary gear set in driving relationship with the third shaft. A transmission of this design may utilize the same basic or first change gear mechanism with a variety of a second change gear mechanisms.
