An Electric Utility Power Storage System that is able to carry the full transmission line load without switch-over or interruption. The storage system is ideally suited for storing power during times of surplus and delivering them during times of peak demand. The principal storage device is a high voltage array of high energy density ceramic polymer capacitors with sufficient stored energy to carry the transmission line load from seconds to hours, when an appropriate amount of reserve capacity is installed. The system is ideally suited for DC transmission lines and in some configurations the high density energy storage capacitors are directly connected to the transmission line through a protective disconnect network.
