For multicode transmission, to reduce the peak power, the amplitude is converted on the transmission side, and an estimator for compensating for the distortion due to the conversion is provided on the receiving side. In one method for this, MOD calculation for every chip is performed on the transmission side, and the amplitude lost by the MOD is estimated on the receiving side, thereby reducing the peak power to one-ninth. In estimating the amplitude lost by the MOD calculation, it is judged which is more likely, odd or even multiple of the denominator of the MOD among all the codes used.
