A configuration for a SONET transport node comprises a pair of transparent mux/demuxs provided at two sites and connected over a high rate span. The T-Muxsprovide continuity of all tribs and maintain a lower bit rate linear or ring system through the higher bit rate span. The lower bit rate linear or ring system operates as if it were directly connected without the higher bit rate midsection. For the forward direction of the traffic, the T-Mux comprises a multi-channel receiver for receiving the trib signals and providing for each trib signal a trib SPE and a trib OH. The trib SPEs are multiplexed into a supercarrier SPE and the trib OHs signals are processed to generate a supercarrier OH. A supercarrier transmitter maps the supercarrier SPE and the supercarrier OH into a supercarrier signal andtransmits same over the high rate span. Reverse operations are effected for the reverse direction of traffic. With this invention, an entire ring system does not have to be upgraded to a higher line rate due to fiber exhaust on a single span. The invention is particularly applicable to OC-48/OC-12/OC-3 linear and ring networks and the high rate span could be an OC-192 line.
L'invention est une configuration de noeud de transfert SONET qui comprend deux multiplexeurs-démultiplexeurs transparents installés à deux sites différents et connectés par une liaison à grand débit. Ces multiplexeurs transparents assurent la continuité de tous les affluents et offrent un système linéaire ou un système en anneau à faible débit dans la liaison à grand débit. Ce système linéaire ou système en anneau à faible débit fonctionne comme s'il était directement connecté sans la section intermédiaire à grand débit. Pour le trafic en sens direct, le multiplexeur utilise un récepteur multicanal qui sert à recevoir les signaux des affluents et à produire pour chacun d'eux un signal SPE et un signal OH. Les signaux SPE sont multiplexés sur une surporteuse SPE et les signaux OH sont traités afin de produire une surporteuse OH. Un émetteur de surporteuse transpose les surporteuses SPE et OH dans un signal de surporteuse qu'il émet sur la liaison à grand débit. Les opérations inverses sont effectuées pour le trafic en sens inverse. Avec la présente invention il n'est pas nécessaire de mettre tout un système en anneau à niveau à un débit plus élevé en cas d'épuisement des fibres dans une seule liaison. L'invention est particulièrement applicable aux réseaux linéaires et aux réseaux en anneau OC-48/OC-12/OC-3 et la liaison à grand débit peut être une ligne OC-192.
