A method and apparatus are provided for providing an electro-optic signal processing device. The method includes the steps of providing an optical transparent substrate (11) having first and second planar elements with abutting common edge, the planar elements lying at different angles with respect to each other about the common edge and a plurality of alignment apertures (26) formed in the substrate (11). A plurality of optical devices of an optical array are disposed on the first planar element of the substrate (11), with transmission paths of the optical devices passing directly through the substrate (11). A signal processor is also disposed on the first planar element of the substrate (11). An optical fiber holder (50) comprising a plurality of respective optical fibers (54) and guide pin apertures (52) disposed on a first surface of the optical fiber holder (54) is aligned to the optical array using the guide pins (28) and guide pin apertures (52). Optical signals of the optical devices of the optical array are coupled to respective optical fiber of the aligned fiber holder (50). A printed circuit board having a first surface is attached to a mating surface of the substrate's second planar element.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil destinés à fournir un dispositif de traitement de signaux électro-optiques. Le procédé consiste à fournir un substrat optique transparent (11) possédant des premier et second éléments plans avec un bord commun attenant, les éléments plans étant situés à différents angles les uns par rapport aux autres autour du bord commun et de plusieurs ouvertures d'alignement (26) formées dans le substrat (11). Plusieurs dispositifs optiques d'un ensemble optique sont placés sur le premier élément plan du substrat (11), avec des trajets de transmission des dispositifs optiques passant directement à travers le substrat (11). Une unité de traitement de signaux est également placée sur le premier élément plan du substrat (11). Un support de fibres optiques (50) comprenant plusieurs fibres optiques respectives (54) et des ouvertures de tige de guidage (52) placées sur la première surface du support de fibres optiques (54) est aligné par rapport à l'ensemble optique au moyen de tiges de guidage (28) et d'ouvertures de tige de guidage (52). Des signaux optiques des dispositifs optiques de l'ensemble optique sont couplés à la fibre optique respective du support de fibres aligné (50). Une plaque de circuit imprimé possédant un première surface est fixée à la surface de contact du second élément plan du substrat.
