ABSTRACT A transplant plug is described that uses in vitro somatic embryogenesis techniques to mass-multiply plants in a form suitable for direct transplanting. The plug contains potting media covered with an agar nutrient cap. Plants develop from single cells, cell clusters or young embryos derived from cell suspension, callus tissue or explants placed on the cap and establish roots in the potting media.
