A transportation system and method for rider propelled vehicles, such as bicycles, is disclosed. The system includes a covered structure (35) having a surface (27) for movement thereover of the vehicle. Fan units (23) are provided to move air through the structure in a direction and at a selected velocity sufficient to aid movement of the vehicle. The structure is covered and configured so that relative elevations of the surface (27) of the structure between entrance thereto, and exit therefrom, are selectable independent of the ground grades at the installation sites.
