A trap (10) for catching mice and rats includes a standard mousetrap (12) mounted within a two-part housing (14). The standard mousetrap (12) includes a tab (84) which projects through a slot (86) an arcuate upper wall (32) of one portion of the housing (18), allowing one to cock the trap from the exterior of the housing. The first portion (18) of the housing is pivoted to the second portion (20) of the housing so that the housing can be conveniently opened to dispose of a mouse or rat caught in the trap (10). The housing (14) shields the cocked trap so as to enhance the safety thereof while allowing one to empty the trap (10) without running the risk of touching the mouse or rat caught therein.

Le piège classique (12) comporte un levier (84) qui émerge par une fente (86) pratiquée à travers une paroi incurvée (32) formant le sommet d'une des deux parties du boîtier (18); le levier en question permet à l'utilisateur d'armer le piège depuis l'extérieur du boîtier. Pour disposer d'un rongeur pris au piège (10), l'utilisateur n'a qu'à faire pivoter la première partie (18) du boîtier par rapport à la deuxième partie (20) du boîtier. En plus d'abriter le piège armé pour la sécurité de l'utilisateur, le boîtier (14) met celui-ci à l'abri des risques inhérents au contact avec un rongeur piégé.
