ABSTRACT "Tread Element for Moving Pavement or Escalator" A tread element for a moving pavement or an escalator has a tread plate (2) adapted to receive the person to be transported. The tread plate (2) has on at least one of its longitudinal edges a nosing or edge strip or the like (3) introduced into it and secured to it. To secure such a nosing (3) or the like over its whole length along its two longitudinal edges (3a,3b) to the tread element, the nosing (3) engages along its two longitudinal edges (3a,3b) in each case below a part (6,7) o the tread plate (2). Also, between its two longitudinal edges (3a,3b) thus secured, the nosing (3) is rigidly secured by screws (10) from below to the tread plate (2). By virtue of this construction, so-called compact steps who e tread plate (2) is together with all its other support elements a single die-casting, does not have to be completely removed and replaced in the event of a breakage of the tread plate ribbing in the outer zone of the tread plate (2). It is sufficient to replace just the damaged nosing or edge strip or the like. (Figure 2).
