Abstract of the Disclosure A TREAD FOR A TIRE A tread (12) for a tire (10) has a plurality of circumferential grooves (15, 18, 19). The circumferential grooves (15, 18, 19) have first and second walls (20, 22), the first wall (20) being on a side of the groove in a first axial direction and the second wall (22) being on the opposite side of the groove (15, 18, 19). The first and second walls (20, 22) have an angular variation wherein the first walls (20) have an angular orientation 0, greater than the second walls (22) as a function of axial distance from a first lateral edge. At an intermediate groove (18) the angular variation between the first and second wall changes such that the orientation °2 of the second wall (22) is equal to or greater than the angular orientation (°l) of the first wall (20) at the intermediate groove and any circumferential grooves positioned between the intermediate groove (18) and the second lateral edge (16).
