Methods and compositions for treating pathogens in material are described, including methods of decontaminating human fluids prior to processing in the clinical laboratory and methods for decontaminating blood products prior to in vivo use. The techniques handle large volumes of human blood products without destroying the function of the blood products. Novel compounds for photodecontaminating biological material are also contemplated which are compatible with clinical testing, in that they do not interfere with serum analytes.

Les techniques utilisées permettent de traiter d'importantes quantités de produits sanguins sans altérer les fonctions des constituants du sang. L'invention porte également sur de nouveaux composés de photodécontamination de produits biologiques compatibles avec les essais cliniques en ce qu'ils n'interfèrent pas avec les analytes du sérum.
