A method for reducing the itch and the scarring associated with chicken pox is disclosed. The method entails applying a topical pharmaceutical formulation of papain, pancreatin or subtilisin to the skin proximate to the vesicles. To further reduce scarring, an antibiotic is applied with the papain, pancreatin or subtilisin. Compositions are provided in the form of solutions, lotions, ointments and salves containing papain, pancreatin or subtilisin and, optionally, a surfactant, an antibiotic and a penetration enhancer.

Cette invention a trait à un procédé qui permet de réduire le purit et la cicatrisation associés à la varicelle. Le procédé consiste à appliquer sur la peau, à proximité des vésicules, une préparation pharmaceutique topique à base de papaïne, de pancréatine ou de subtilisine. Pour réduire davantage la cicatrisation, on applique un antibiotique en même temps que la papaïne, la pancréatine ou la subtilisine. L'invention concerne des compositions (préparées sous forme de solution, de lotion, d'onguent ou de pommade) contenant de la papaïne, de la pancréatine ou de la subtilisine et, éventuellement, un surfactant, un antibiotique et un activateur de pénétration.
