The cells are free of co-stimulatory antigens, such as B7 antigen. Such cells induce T-cell anergy against the proteins encoded by the DNA, and may be administered to a patient in order to prevent the onset of or to treat an autoimmune disease, or to induce tolerance to a tissue or organ prior to transplantation.
