Compositions and methods for treatment and prevention of hypertrophy, hypertension, congestive heart failure, is--chemic heart disease, ischemia-related conditions, such as ischemia reperfusion injury and cellular dysfunction, are described. The methods are directed to administering pharmaceutical compositions containing at least one compound selected from pyridoxal-5'--phosphate, pyridoxine, pyridoxal, and pyridoxamine.
