ABSTRACT Apparatus and process for removing coal dust from gases emitted from coke ovens while they are being charged comprehends means for spraying a charging liquor into the gas evolved during charging, which liquor is different from and is kept separate from the flushing liquor conventionally sprayed into the gas emitted during coking. Separate supply and collecting mains for those liquors are provided and in one embodiment of the invention separate gas collecting mains for charging gas and for coking gas are provided, together with valve means to connect first one and then the other with an oven.
