ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An electrode and an electrochemical reactor are provided for use in electro-oxidation processes such as the treatment of cyanide in waste water. The reactor includes a high surface area anode of material selected from the group of an anisotropic carbon and an isotropic carbon, a cathode, and means adapted to control the flow of waste water to cause the waste water to flow over the anode for electro-oxidation.
