ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION The invention relates to the treatment of fibre, particular- ly for making rods of bonded, fibrillated polyolefin fibre which can be used for example as or in tobacco smoke filters. The fibre may be crimped or straight and are bonded with a polymeric or copolymeric bonding agent which is applied to the fibres with- out the application of heat, the bonding agent being in the form of a cold setting emulsion, applied for example by means of a shear cone rotating at high speed or by brush means, the treated fibres then being formed to shape and allowed to cure in normal conditions and in the absence of heating.
