Compositions and methods are provided for prophylactic or therapeutic treatment of a mammal for hearing or balance impairments involving neuronal damage, loss, or degeneration, preferably of spiral ganglion neurons, by administration of a therapeutically effective amount of one or more molecules having erythropoietin activity selected from EPO, or a biosimilar, a variant, or a mutant thereof; a protein or peptide mimetic of EPO; a small molecule mimetic of EPO and an erythropoiesis stimulating agent. Also provided are improved compositions and methods for treatments of ototoxicity requiring administration of a pharmaceutical having an ototoxic side-effect in combination with a therapeutically effective amount of a molecule having erythropoietin activity.
La présente invention concerne des compositions et des procédés pour le traitement prophylactique ou thérapeutique des troubles de laudition ou de léquilibre dun mammifère impliquant une lésion, une perte ou une dégénérescence neuronale, de préférence des neurones du ganglion spiral, par administration dune quantité thérapeutiquement efficace dune ou plusieurs molécules ayant une activité érythropoïétine choisies parmi lEPO, ou son biosimilaire, son variant, ou son mutant ; une protéine ou un mimétique peptidique de lEPO ; un mimétique de lEPO à petites molécules et un agent stimulant lérythropoïèse. Linvention concerne également des compositions et des procédés améliorés pour les traitements de lototoxicité nécessitant ladministration dun produit pharmaceutique ayant un effet secondaire ototoxique en association avec une quantité thérapeutiquement efficace dune molécule ayant une activité érythropoïétine.
