A method of treating inflammatory disorders of the bowel and inflammatory disorders of the urinary bladder is disclosed. A method of modulating the function of monocytes is also disclosed. The method involves the treatment of a patient's blood with a photoactivatable compound followed by ultraviolet light-activation of the photoactivatable compound. The blood treated as such is returned to the patient in a process known as extracorporeal photopheresis.

L'invention concerne une méthode de traitement des affections inflammatoires de l'intestin et de la vessie. Elle concerne également une méthode permettant de moduler la fonction des monocytes. Cette méthode consiste à traiter le sang du patient à l'aide d'un composé photoactivable, puis à soumettre ce composé photoactivable à l'activation de rayonnements ultraviolets. Le sang traité de la sorte est réinjecté dans le corps du patient par un procédé connu sous le nom de photophérèse extracorporelle.
