Abstract of the Disclosure A process for retarding undesirable buildup of polymeric material on the internal surfaces of re- actors used in the polymerization of substantially water-insoluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer, particularly vinyl chloride monomer, comprising, intro- ducing sulfur trioxide into the reactor in an amount sufficient to provide at least about 0.045 gram of sulfur trioxide per gallon of reactor volume.
