ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of treating sulphide-limed pelts in an acidic aqueous treatment medium wherein the medium contains a water-soluble salt of manganese, cobalt, nickel, titanium or zirconium and is at least partially permeated with oxygen during treatment to effect oxidation of hydrogen sulphide formed in the said medium. The specification also describes novel deliming, bating and pre-tanning compositions containing at least one of the above-identified metal salts.
