From one aspect, there is provided a method of treating a volume of plastics waste, the method including providing a volume of plastics waste comprising one of more plastics types, the or each plastics types having a melting point and a flash point and providing a heating zone having an entry zone through which the volume of plastics waste is feedable. The heating zone is brought to an operating temperature so as to avoid carbonisation of the plastics waste and the plastics waste is heated so that at least some of the plastics is melted to form a flowable plastics melt. The flowable plastics melt is caused to flow though the outlet under the influence of gravity into a cooling zone during which gas is allowed to escape to facilitate the flow. From another aspect there is provided an apparatus for treating a volume of plastics waste including a melt chamber defining a heating zone and heating means for heating the volume of plastics waste. The heating means includes a plurality of heating members which extend transversely to the flow of plastics waste and which are arranged to create a non-uniform thermal surface in the region of an inlet of the melt chamber.
Un aspect de l'invention concerne un procédé destiné au traitement d'un volume de déchets plastiques, consistant à prendre un volume de déchets plastiques constitué d'un ou plusieurs types de plastique, chaque type de plastique possédant un point de fusion et un point d'éclair, puis à introduire ces déchets dans une zone de chauffage par une zone d'entrée. Cette zone d'entrée est chauffée à une température de service de manière à éviter la carbonisation des déchets plastiques et les déchets plastiques sont chauffés de façon qu'au moins certains des plastiques fondent et forment une matière fondue plastique fluide. Cette matière fondue plastique fluide s'écoule par la sortie et pénètre sous l'effet de la gravité dans une zone de refroidissement, le gaz s'échappant, lors de cette étape, pour faciliter l'écoulement. Un autre aspect de l'invention concerne un appareil destiné au traitement d'un volume de déchets plastiques, comprenant une chambre de fusion comportant une zone de chauffage et un moyen de chauffage permettant de chauffer le volume de déchets plastiques. Le moyen de chauffage comprend une pluralité d'éléments de chauffage qui s'étendent de manière transversale par rapport à l'écoulement de déchets plastiques et qui sont conçus pour créer une surface thermique non uniforme au niveau d'une entrée de la chambre de fusion.
