Abstract of the Disclosure: A standard industrial process is the formation of a varnish layer on a printed surface. The use of a hydrophobic ink on a hydrophilic surface leads to inefficient coating when a water based varnish composition, for example a dispersed acrylic copolymer, is used. The standard of varnish coating is improved by incorporating an auxiliary film forming material, for example caesin, capable of raising the critical surface tension to the hydrophobic inked areas."
