Methods of preventing and/or treating at least one symptom of Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) and its related disor-ders, including disorders such as periodic limb movements in sleep (PLMS) and periodic limb movement disorder (PLMD), are disclosed. The methods comprise identifying a host, afflicted with Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) and its related disorders; and ad-ministering to the host a pharmaceutically effective amount of a 4- hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase. Also provided are meth-ods and compositions for treating/preventing sleep disorders, and methods and compositions for improving sleep quantity and ad-equacy.
