TITLE: "IMPROVEMENTS IN THE TREATMENT OF SAND" APPLICANT: REVERTEX (SOUTH AFRICA) (PROPRIETARY) LIMITED ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE The invention concerns a method of treating sand or soil in order to improve its water-retention properties by applying to the surface of the sand or soil a polymer emulsion contain- ing between 0,5 to 1 percent of solids at 2 rate of 0,1 to 40 kilograms per hectare of dry polymer depending on the nature of the sand or soil, the concentration and/or the rate of application being chosen so that the surface of the sand includes a discontinuous layer of the polymer, the polymer emulsion being chosen so that if mixed with sand devoid of clay and then dried, results in a free-flowing product which prevents water in liquid form from percolating thereinto.
