ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to the treatment of spent bleaching clay which has been utilized in and is a by- product of the refining of animal and vegetable oils. The potentially hazardous clay is suspended in an alkaline aqueous solution of soap to saponify adsorbed oil. The clay is thereby deoiled and, if desired, the remaining solution may be acidified for separation of fatty acid derived from the oil. -1-
